Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani’s recent visit to Anbar governorate focused on the progress of several key projects, including the Anbar combined power station in the Euphrates district. During his meeting with the executing company at the project headquarters, Al-Sudani discussed the importance of completing the project according to required specifications and emphasized the need for speedy completion.

The Anbar power station project is a strategic initiative that began in 2013 but was halted for approximately 8 years due to ISIS terrorist groups occupying the governorate. However, work on the project resumed as part of the government’s efforts to remove obstacles and improve infrastructure in Iraq. The station is expected to have a capacity of 1640 megawatts, utilizing local natural gas from the Okaz gas field as fuel to reduce energy production costs and ensure a stable energy supply.

At present, the completion rate of the project stands at 50%, with four gas units and two steam units already being part of its setup. In addition to reviewing progress on this project, Al-Sudani also discussed electricity service throughout Anbar governorate and followed up on updates regarding Akkas gas project, which will provide fuel for the power station once completed.

This visit by Iraqi Prime Minister highlights his commitment towards improving infrastructure and energy capabilities in Iraq, signaling that progress will be made towards achieving these goals despite any challenges that may arise along
