Between 2013 and 2021, healthcare facilities in Syria were the target of devastating attacks that resulted in the loss of life and injury. A recent report by SAMS, titled “A Heavy Price to Pay,” documents the horrific consequences of these attacks. The report reveals that 61 healthcare workers lost their lives while serving at SAMS-supported facilities, with 385 attacks taking place during that time period.

This booklet is a crucial part of SAMS’ Humanitarian Footprints initiative, which aims to raise awareness about the violence against healthcare workers in the Syrian conflict. Within its pages, we find the stories of 11 brave health workers who gave their lives while serving at SAMS-supported facilities between 2013 and 2021. These stories are accompanied by visual testimonies from the families of eight healthcare workers who lost their lives as well as an analytical report documenting all recorded attacks on healthcare by SAMS. Through this report, we pay tribute to these selfless healthcare workers for their ultimate sacrifice and service to those they cared for.
