Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd. has chosen to partner with Clariant and its process partner, Lummus Technology, to supply their CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for the dehydrogenation of isobutane at a new plant in Huizhou City, China. The process technology is under exclusive license by Lummus Technology, while the custom-made catalyst is provided by Clariant. This marks the first time Huizhou Boeko will be licensing the CATOFIN technology at one of their facilities.

The scope of the project includes both technology license and basic engineering. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce 550,000 tpy of net isobutylene, which will be used as a feedstock for the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) downstream. The CATOFIN process is known for its efficiency, using fixed-bed reactors to maximize catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane for high yields of isobutylene while keeping investment and operating costs low.

Jens Cuntze, Business President Catalysts and APAC at Clariant, expressed his excitement about delivering their CATOFIN catalyst to the Huizhou Boeko plant and anticipates a successful partnership. He stated that “We are thrilled to bring our proven CATOFIN technology to Huizhou Boeko’s new plant and look forward to working closely with them.” The collaboration between these two companies promises reliability, productivity, and increased profitability for the plant.
