During Donate Life Month in April, the UVA Health Transplant Center has created a stunning display of approximately 1,300 colorful pinwheels outside of its West Complex to celebrate the gift of life provided by organ donation and transplantation. As Virginia’s only comprehensive transplant center, UVA Health has a long history of providing life-saving organ transplants. With over 7,000 organ transplants performed since its establishment over 50 years ago, the center plays a vital role in saving and improving the lives of patients.

The garden will be on display through May 1st, serving as a reminder of the impact of organ donation and transplantation. The focus during this month is on the importance of living kidney and liver donations to help the thousands of individuals on waiting lists for transplants across the country. For those interested in learning more about becoming a living kidney or liver donor, UVA Health’s living organ donation page provides valuable information and resources. By becoming a living donor, individuals can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need of organ transplants.

The pinwheel garden serves as a symbol of hope and renewal, highlighting the importance of organ donation and transplantation in saving lives. This event honors the gift of life provided by organ donation and transplantation and is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about this important issue.
