Henry Ford Health is set to open a new behavioral health hospital in West Bloomfield, with Emily Sexton appointed as the CEO of the facility. The importance of mental wellness was discussed by Sexton during a special episode of Michigan Matters focused on mental health.

During the episode, Sexton joined a roundtable discussion with Elizabeth Hertel, Director of Michigan’s Health and Human Services Department, and Eric Hipple, former Detroit Lions quarterback and mental health advocate. Hertel discussed the state’s focus on behavioral health and highlighted more than $360 million in investments made by MDHHS over the past two years to support families in need of behavioral health services.

The leaders discussed the efforts in the region to support individuals dealing with mental health issues. Carol Cain, the 13-time Emmy-winning senior producer and host of Michigan Matters, facilitated the discussions on the show. The new hospital, expected to open later this year, will have 192 beds for inpatient care and is a joint venture between Henry Ford Health and Acadia Healthcare. The two-story hospital will build on the existing services provided by Henry Ford in West Bloomfield and serve as an academic site to educate future behavioral healthcare providers.
