Google has announced the release of an enhanced Find My Device feature for Android phones. This feature uses a crowdsourced network of Android devices to help users locate their misplaced devices, even when they are offline. By leveraging Bluetooth technology, over a billion Android devices can help users find their lost devices. The location data is end-to-end encrypted and only visible to the owner of the missing device.

This new feature closes the gap between Android and iOS capabilities when it comes to finding lost devices. Google cannot decrypt or access the location data due to the end-to-end encryption features. In May, there will be an update to the Find My Device app that will allow users to locate everyday items like keys or luggage by using tracker tags from Chipolo and Pebblebee. These tags are compatible with both Android and iOS alerts, with more compatible tags from Eufy, Jio, and Motorola set to be released later in the year.

Google has also announced an additional release and update to the Find My Device app for Android phones and tablets. This feature uses Bluetooth technology across a network of over a billion Android devices to help users find their misplaced devices, even when they are offline. The networked devices encrypt the location of missing devices, ensuring privacy and security for the owner. This feature offers a similar level of smart device tracking as iOS “Find My” capabilities. Additional updates will be made in May to allow users to locate items like keys or luggage equipped with tracker tags. These tags will be compatible with both Android and iOS devices and will provide alerts for unwanted tracking. New compatible tags are set to be released later this year.
