A restaurant in Downtown Phoenix recently changed its name just one month after opening. The owner, Angel Gould, had originally named the establishment ‘Lovesack’ to provide comfort food at affordable prices in the heart of the city. However, the restaurant faced legal challenges when a furniture company with a similar name threatened to sue them.

Gould expressed that they had followed all necessary procedures, including passing a trade commission review, only to face objections from the furniture company on the last day they could object. Despite this, Gould initially wanted to fight back against the lawsuit but found it prohibitive due to the cost of legal battles.

To determine a new name for their restaurant, Gould placed a suggestion box in which customers could submit their ideas for names. Out of over 2,000 responses received, Gould chose ‘Lovebite’ as their new name. This choice came from an anonymous customer who suggested replacing ‘sack’ with ‘bite.’ While disappointed by the situation, Gould noted that they learned valuable lessons about legal battles even when everything was done correctly. Despite reaching out to the furniture company for comment on their decision to change their name, no response has been received as of now.
