Ana María Cetto Kramis, a specialist in this field, expressed this sentiment during a conference titled “Quantum mechanics demystified” at the Mexican humanistic and scientific advances cycle organized by Conahcyt. She highlighted the significance of quantum mechanics in studying atomic and subatomic systems, their interactions with radiation and other forces, and the release of energy in discrete units called quanta.

Despite its predictive capacity and numerous applications in various fields such as information, cryptography, and chemistry, quantum mechanics remains an incomplete theory due to its inability to explain the underlying causes behind observed phenomena. The development of quantum mechanics dates back almost a century ago, with groundbreaking contributions made by renowned physicists Werner Karl Heisenberg and Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger. However, despite their efforts to understand this complex field fully, several mysteries still remain unsolved.

One such mystery that Cetto Kramis explored is wave-particle duality. She also delved into atomic stability and nonlocality, which refers to the phenomenon where particles can be instantaneously connected regardless of the distance between them. Additionally, she discussed entanglement – a phenomenon where two particles become correlated such that measuring one particle’s state affects the other’s state instantaneously.

Cetto Kramis emphasized that while Niels Bohr’s postulates touch upon these concepts, there are still challenges to understanding the complex nature of quantum mechanics fully. By dedicating significant portions of her career towards unraveling these mysteries and characterizing stochastic processes underlying quantum mechanics, she hopes to enhance our understanding of this fascinating field further.
