Klager Elementary School hosted the Around the World with Math and Science Night on April 26, which was a huge success. The event was organized by a team of passionate volunteers from both Klager and high schools who provided families with STEAM learning opportunities in the school’s cafeteria. Children had the chance to explore various aspects of learning from different cultures around the world.

During the night, children learned about the science of growing food in the Arctic, the discovery of popcorn in Peru, and the invention of sorbet in China. They also engaged with technology through robotics demonstrations by Klager K-12 robotics teams. In addition, children practiced their engineering skills with K’Nex, an invention from the United States. Families were treated to an art show and children had the opportunity to create notebooks, a product originally from Australia, as a make-and-take activity.

Children also got to apply their math skills through a game challenge called Mancala, which was created in Africa. Title 1 representatives were on hand to promote reading local Michigan authors and products, and MI Future Funds provided information on college planning and savings. At the end of the night, children had the chance to vote for their favorite station, with Robotics Teams being named as winners.

Overall, families of all ages had a great time at this interactive and engaging event that allowed them to explore different cultures while learning about STEAM education.
