Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa is introducing a new animal science minor for students interested in pursuing careers related to animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog offers students a broader range of career prospects and aligns with the university’s commitment to meeting the needs of the Siouxland region through innovative academic programs.

Dr. Chris Spicer, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, expressed excitement about the new minor, emphasizing the university’s dedication to offering interdisciplinary study options that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, the dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, highlighted the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that the animal science minor will provide. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and technology’s role in animal science.

The addition of animal science complements various majors available at Morningside University, providing students with flexibility to customize their educational experience according to their career goals. This enhancement reflects recent improvements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department, such as building the Rosen Ag Center and developing Lags Farm – a 76-acre learning farm near campus.
