A woman named Genesis Hurtado, 26, has been arrested for setting a series of fires at businesses in an East Boston business plaza over the last few days. On Saturday night, there were three fires reported at an AutoZone on Border Street, a CVS pharmacy and a Marshalls department store. Authorities charged Hurtado with arson in connection with these incidents.
On Monday afternoon, police also discovered that another fire had been set at a nearby McDonald’s on the same day that Hurtado was arrested. However, no injuries were reported from any of the fires. Hurtado was apprehended around 10 a.m. near Central Square Park after a report of a suspicious person fleeing the scene.
At the time of her arrest, it was unclear if Hurtado had legal representation. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon to face multiple charges against her for causing damage to businesses in the East Boston business plaza. The investigation into the fires is ongoing and arson investigators are working to build a case against Hurtado for her alleged actions.
Business owners in the area can rest a little easier knowing that the suspected arsonist is now in police custody and authorities are working diligently to bring justice to those affected by her actions.
