In May 2024, residents in the Duluth Public Schools district will have another chance to vote on a technology referendum. The annual $5.2 million capital projects levy aims to improve classroom technology, curricula, digital infrastructure, and cyber and physical security throughout the schools.

During an interview with FOX 21’s morning newscast, Duluth Public Schools Superintendent John Magas discussed the renewed focus on Career and Tech Education in the district. “We understand that technology is constantly evolving, and we want our students to be equipped with the skills they need to succeed in the future,” said Magas. “By investing in this referendum, we can provide our students with access to up-to-date tools and resources.”

The referendum previously failed by less than 300 votes in November 2023. However, a special election has been called for May 14th to give residents another opportunity to voice their support for this important initiative. Early voting has already begun, and community meetings will take place leading up to the election to further discuss the details of the referendum.

Dates, times, and locations for these meetings will be announced soon. It is important that residents come out and vote on this crucial issue as it will directly impact the education of their children in Duluth Public Schools District.
