St. Patrick’s County Park in South Bend is hosting a free mini-series of science programs aimed at girls in the fifth through eighth grades on April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This exciting event will provide students with an opportunity to learn about Indiana wildlife from animals and staff from the Potawatomi Zoo, as well as hands-on science experiments led by teachers from Riley High School.

One of the highlights of the program will be a presentation by Jennifer Tank and her research team from the University of Notre Dame, who will introduce students to the world of aquatic insects and explain how they can help us understand the health of our waterways. This educational initiative is known as Girls Ambitious about Learning Science, or GALS.

Participants are advised to dress appropriately for the weather and wear hiking shoes, as some activities may take place outdoors. Lunch and snacks will be provided to all attendees thanks to the Dr. Elmer R. Graber Youth Fund for Exploring Nature, which means there is no fee for the program. However, registration is required by April 17 by calling 574-654-3155.
