When Stefan Diggs decided to switch his jersey number from No. 14 to No. 1 upon joining the Texans, he made a significant change in his career. The new number had previously been worn by Safety Jimmie Ward, who had chosen it last year after coming over from San Francisco. In order for Diggs to acquire the No. 1 jersey, Ward agreed to give it up in exchange for around $100,000, as reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC.

This change was not an easy one for Ward, as he had grown attached to the No. 1 jersey during his time with the Texans. However, he ultimately decided that it was time to return to his familiar number and passed up the opportunity to keep wearing the No. 1 jersey in favor of returning to his previous No. 20 jersey that he had worn during his time with the 49ers.

Diggs, on the other hand, saw this as an opportunity to try something new and passed up the chance to reclaim his old No. 14 jersey, which is now worn by receiver Alex Bachman in favor of trying out the No. 1 jersey. This move was not without controversy, as some fans were upset that Diggs would choose to wear a number that had previously been associated with another player on the team. However, Diggs saw this as an opportunity to start fresh and make a new mark on the team’s history.

Overall, this change was a significant one for both players and marked a turning point in their careers with the Texans team
