Emergency services in Dessau-Roßlau, Saxony-Anhalt, are on high alert as a large boa constrictor is reportedly roaming freely in a residential area. The snake, which can grow up to three meters long and is native to South America, has never been seen by residents before.
The only clue authorities have is a two-meter-long snake skin that was found in a stairwell of a new building, leading them to believe it could be a king snake. However, the fire department searched the building and cellars using thermal imaging cameras without finding any sign of the dangerous constrictor.
Residents of Viethstrasse, where the snake skin was found, have been questioned but no illegal keeping of snakes has been reported. Boa constrictors are exotic animals that require approval from an official veterinarian in Saxony-Anhalt to keep them as pets.
The search for the boa constrictor continues and residents are urged to remain cautious until it is found. If encountered, residents should not approach the snake and contact authorities immediately for their safety.
