A recent study has shown that combining both aerobic exercise and strength training can be just as effective as doing only aerobic exercise in improving cardiovascular risk. The research involved 400 overweight or obese individuals with high blood pressure between the ages of 35 and 70. They were randomly assigned to one of four groups: no exercise, aerobic exercise only, strength-based exercise only, or a combination of both.

The study found that those in the aerobics-only and combination exercise groups had a significant drop in cardiovascular disease risk factors compared to those who did not exercise. These risk factors included elevated blood pressure, LDL (bad) cholesterol, blood sugar, and body fat. The findings were published in the European Heart Journal.
