On Thursday night, the Columbiana County Special Olympics basketball team emerged victorious over the Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) All-Stars in a hard-fought game at Nace Gymnasium at Lisbon High School. The Comets came out on top with a score of 56-50, thanks to the leadership of Bryan Weingart, who scored 17 points. Jared Ausenheimer and William James each contributed 10 points to the scoreboard, while Owen Botzenhart added eight points. Lucas Rhodes, Tommy Baun, Jamie Gordon, Michael Bertschy, and Keegan Todd also played key roles in the win.

The annual CCBDD Basketball Classic, held during Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, is a highlight event for both teams. It showcases the talent and teamwork of athletes with developmental disabilities, promoting inclusion and awareness within the community. In addition to the varsity game, the Comets also won the junior varsity game with a score of 32-14. Freddy Beshara led the Rockets with six points, followed by Colton James, Megan DeCort, Cody Jackson, and Phil Stewart with four points each.
