In recent news, the Clemson Police Department will be making a significant announcement regarding their efforts to combat the use of fake IDs at local bars. Chief Jorge Campos proposed a pilot program last year using a software called Intellicheck to Clemson City Council. The cost of implementing the program is approximately $42,000 per year, and City Council was tasked with finding a way to fund it.
The Tiger Town Tavern has been utilizing this program for several years to scan and verify driver’s licenses, and it has proven to be effective in deterring underage drinking. During the Clemson Police Advisory Board’s recent meeting on March 28, the fake ID pilot program was once again discussed. Chief Campos mentioned that an announcement regarding the program will be made on Tuesday, April 16 at Tiger Town Tavern. FOX Carolina will be covering the announcement, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.
