Keenan Allen, a wide receiver who spent 11 seasons with the Chargers, recently acknowledged that he turned down their request to restructure his contract. This decision ultimately led to his trade to the Chicago Bears. During his introductory press conference, Allen stated that it was simply a business decision by both parties and there were no hard feelings involved.

In the 2023 season with the Chargers, Allen set a franchise record with 108 receptions and surpassed the previous record set by running back Austin Ekeler. He also exceeded 10,000 career receiving yards with 1,243 yards in 2023. This successful season led to his sixth Pro Bowl selection. Despite hoping to finish his career with the Chargers, Allen is now looking forward to the new opportunities and traditions that come with joining the Bears.

The Chargers traded Allen to the Bears in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft. Other teams such as the Houston Texans and New York Jets had also expressed interest in acquiring him. However, Allen is excited about his future in Chicago and still has one year remaining on the contract extension he signed in 2020. He is looking to possibly secure a contract extension with the Bears.

In addition to Keenan Allen’s trade, the Chargers officially signed backup quarterback Easton Stick and defensive tackle Poona Ford during this off-season period. Stick started four games last season in place of an injured Justin Herbert and has been with the Chargers for five seasons now. Ford previously played for Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks before coming over to Los Angeles last year. He brings experience and depth to Chargers’ defensive front which will be valuable asset for them moving forward into next season.
