In the Andean mountains, there is a 124-year-old man who has been identified by Peruvian state officials as the world’s oldest individual. Marcelino Abad Tolentino, also known as ‘Mashico,’ resides in the central Peruvian region of Huanuco and has cultivated a lifestyle of wellness and inner tranquility for over a century.

The government stated that Abad’s robust health and amiable demeanor were evident in his lifestyle, which was characterized by resilience and adeptness. On April 5th, he celebrated his 124th birthday by blowing out candles. The Peruvian authorities are assisting Abad in applying to Guinness World Records for independent verification.

Born in the small town of Chaglla, Abad lived off the grid until he was discovered by the Peruvian government in 2019. He attributes his vitality to a diet rich in fruits and lamb meat, along with chewing coca leaves, a tradition common in Peru’s Andean communities. Currently residing in a senior home, Abad recently enjoyed a special birthday celebration that included a cake with a figurine resembling him.

Abad’s potential confirmation as the world’s oldest individual would surpass the age of the oldest independently verified human ever recorded, making him an even more significant figure worldwide.
