Marcelino Abad, a resident of Huanuco in central Peru, is claiming to be 124 years old and is seeking recognition from the Guinness World Records to validate his claim. The Peruvian government is supporting his bid for recognition and praising him for his healthy lifestyle and positive outlook.

Abad, who was born in 1900, has lived peacefully amongst the flora and fauna of Huanuco for most of his life. He attributes his longevity to his diet rich in fruits and lamb meat, as well as his tradition of chewing coca leaves.

The government of Peru provided Abad with a government ID and pension in 2019 after identifying him. Now residing in a senior home, Abad recently celebrated his milestone birthday with a special celebration.

If Abad’s age is officially verified by the Guinness World Records, he would surpass the current oldest living man, an 111-year-old Briton, and potentially become the oldest person ever verified in history.
