For over four decades, the Franklin County Business Community supplement has been a cherished tradition in the community, showcasing the people and businesses that make up the area’s family tree. Started by former Messenger editor and co-publisher Emerson Lynn in 1983, the supplement was designed to highlight the energy, creativity, and commerce that drives the local economy.

The first edition was met with an immediate and positive response from readers, who loved seeing pictures of their friends and favorite businesses. The supplement quickly became the Messenger’s premier product and was soon picked up by other newspapers across the state. In 2018, Jim O’Rourke took over ownership of the Messenger and continued the tradition of publishing the Franklin County Business Community supplement.

In 2020, the format of the supplement changed to a high-quality all-color magazine, adding even more vibrancy to its pages. Now in its 42nd edition in 2024, the supplement remains relevant despite the ease of searching for businesses online. Holding this album in both hands brings back old memories and faces that may have been lost over time. Through photos of outfits, haircuts, family vacations, and birthday parties, this annual publication serves as a lasting memory of Franklin County’s vibrant history.
