In 1820, only 12% of adults worldwide were able to read and write, according to the World Economic Forum. But now, as of 2022, approximately 87% of individuals over the age of 15 are literate, a significant increase from 67% in 1979. This rise in literacy rates is truly remarkable and speaks to the incredible progress we have made as a society.
