On April 8, 2024, the United States will experience a total solar eclipse that will cast its shadow across a wide swath of the country. Although Miami will not be directly in the path of totality this time, the city will still witness a partial eclipse. The partial solar eclipse in Miami will begin at 1:47pm, reach its peak at 3:01pm with 45% of the sun’s disk obscured, and end at 4:13pm.

To celebrate this rare event, Frost Science is inviting guests to join in a viewing party starting at noon on April 8. The waterfront museum will offer special programming in the planetarium and throughout its galleries, exploring the science and history of eclipses. Visitors can view the partial solar eclipse from one of six museum levels, but are reminded to use solar viewers to protect their eyes, which are provided for free with ticket purchase.

In addition to viewing the eclipse, attendees can participate in activities such as building a lunar base camp, creating a pinhole camera, storytime, an interactive eclipse show, and more leading up to the main event. For non-members, tickets start at $37.95 for ages 12 and older and $26.95 for children ages four to eleven, granting full access to the museum and eclipse programming. Rooftop access during the event will be limited to active Frost Science members on a first-come, first-served basis.

The total solar eclipse is expected to draw millions of viewers from across the country who will gather in various locations along the path of totality or watch it live on television or streaming services. It is considered one of the most anticipated celestial events of the year due to its rarity and its ability to capture people’s attention.

As people prepare for this historic event, it is important for them to understand how to safely view it without causing damage to their eyes or other parts of their body. Solar viewers are recommended by experts as they provide adequate protection against harmful UV radiation while allowing people to see clearly during an eclipse.
