Robert Rust, a 36-year-old man from Stirling Road in Northstowe, Cambridge, has admitted to burgling eight businesses. The spate of break-ins occurred at businesses in Cambridge during March, including takeaways and stores. Police reported the incidents and Rust was remanded in custody for sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court on 6 May. In relation to two of the break-ins, another man received an 18-month suspended sentence.

Rust pleaded guilty to the burglaries at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 12 April. The court heard that he had entered the businesses through windows or doors and stolen items such as cash, mobile phones, and electronics.

The incidents caused fear and disruption for local residents and business owners. Takeaway owner John Smith said he was shocked to find his business ransacked when he arrived for work one morning. “I can’t believe this happened,” he said. “I’ve been running this place for 20 years and never had anything like this happen before.”

Police have urged anyone with information about the burglaries to come forward. Detective Inspector Paul Milsom said: “We are working hard to bring those responsible to justice and ensure that the people of Cambridge feel safe.”
