In the early hours of Friday morning, thieves broke into a currency exchange in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago and stole an ATM. The incident took place at around 2:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Division Street. According to witnesses, two unknown offenders broke the front door’s glass and removed the ATM machine before fleeing in a white van.

This burglary is just one example of a growing trend of ATM thefts in the area. In January, another currency exchange was targeted when thieves drove a Jeep Cherokee through the front window near Roosevelt and Jefferson Street, taking the ATM machine containing an unspecified amount of money. Another currency exchange on the city’s near West Side was also recently broken into, with burglars breaking the front glass door to take the machine containing an unspecified amount of cash.

Despite these incidents happening multiple times before, it is unclear if they are connected. Currently, no one is in custody for this crime and Area 3 detectives continue to investigate this case further.
