In Knoxville, the battle between Georgia and Tennessee softball was intense as No. 3 Bulldogs faced off against No. 6/4 Volunteers. Despite their explosive offense, the Bulldogs struggled against the Volunteers’ pitchers and lost the game, bringing Georgia’s record to 30-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

The Volunteers took an early lead on Friday night by hitting a two-run home run off Georgia starter Lilli Backes in the first inning. They then extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with an RBI double, adding two more runs in the fourth inning with an RBI single, bringing them to a commanding 5-0 lead.

Despite their struggles, Georgia managed to avoid being shut out for the first time this season when freshman Emily Digby hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. However, it wasn’t enough to secure a victory for the Bulldogs as they had lost this game after dropping a series to No. 20 Arkansas last weekend and following up with a sweep against Ole Miss.

With only four conference series left before the SEC tournament, Georgia still had hope of turning things around. The series against Tennessee continued on Saturday at noon on ESPN+2 as they looked forward to avoiding a sweep and salvaging what remained of their series.

This upcoming game was crucial for Georgia as they sought to avoid another loss and maintain their position atop of the SEC East standings.
