During a press conference on Thursday, Browns General Manager Andrew Berry shared updates on the progress of two key offensive players recovering from injuries. While Berry expressed optimism about quarterback Deshaun Watson’s ability to return for the start of the season after injuring his right shoulder, he was more cautious when it came to running back Nick Chubb.

Chubb, who tore knee ligaments in Week Two last season and underwent multiple surgeries, has been making positive strides in his recovery process. He has been focused and aggressive in his approach to rehab and has recently started running on land. However, Berry emphasized that the upcoming weeks and months will be critical in determining the extent of Chubb’s workload on his knee. The team will continue to monitor his progress and gradually increase the load on his knee during training.

Despite facing challenges during his recovery, Chubb agreed to reduce his base salary to avoid potential release this offseason and has the opportunity to earn incentives based on his performance. His ability to handle increased workloads on his knee will play a significant role in determining whether he can achieve these incentives. The team remains optimistic about Chubb’s recovery and is hopeful that he will be able to contribute on the field in the upcoming season.
