The 61st annual “World’s Largest” Smelt Fry hosted by the Brooklyn Park Lions Club is set to kick off this week, starting on Wednesday evening. This year, the club is planning to fry up a whopping 1,300 pounds of smelt, surpassing last year’s record. In fact, the event was so popular last year that they ran out of the small fish.

Not only is the smelt fry a delicious tradition, but it also serves an important purpose. The funds raised during the event go towards providing vision screenings for children and supporting the youth Brooklyn Park Lions Drum & Dance Corps. It’s a great way to enjoy a tasty meal while giving back to the community.

Mike Reeves is already hard at work preparing for the event, making sure everything is ready for a successful smelt fry. The smelt fry will take place from Wednesday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center. It’s a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together, have a great meal, and support a worthy cause.
