The CC OO union is addressing issues faced by newer workers in part-time contracts, including excessive use of additional hours. Young members of the union have identified various challenges and compiled proposals in a document titled “They will hear us”. The document covers labor issues, housing access, inequality, discrimination, and mental health.

The union has highlighted labor poverty among young workers, with one in five considered poor. This is due to discriminatory practices that place the burden of salary improvements on older workers. The union leaders emphasize the need to address this issue and ensure fair treatment for young employees.

Challenges in accessing housing have also been identified as a significant barrier for young people. The lack of affordable housing and market forces that inflate prices have been highlighted as key factors contributing to youth precarity. The union is calling on the government to rethink housing laws and enable municipalities to implement rent price caps to address the housing affordability crisis.

In terms of labor, young union members are advocating for two key actions: strengthening Labor Inspection to ensure payment for overtime hours and reforming part-time contract regulations to address common issues faced by young employees. They are specifically calling for changes to Article 12 of the Workers’ Statute to address the use of additional hours in part-time contracts and transition them to full-time contracts when a certain threshold is exceeded.

By addressing these challenges, the union seeks to improve opportunities for young people to thrive personally and professionally in Spain.
