The EU and U.S. officials met in Brussels and Leuven this week as part of the EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council to discuss collaborative actions regarding AI. The focus of the discussion was on regular dialogues between responsible agencies on AI safety, 6G standards, semiconductors, and quantum technologies. Alexandre Roure, Head of Policy and Deputy Head of Office at CCIA Europe, expressed optimism about the progress being made in boosting trade, economic security, and digital collaboration between the European Union and the United States.

Roure emphasized that the commitment to deepen collaboration on AI is a positive step towards advancing alignment on responsible AI. He also mentioned that ongoing efforts to strengthen shared vision and deliver tangible results for deploying trusted emerging technologies on a global scale are crucial. The Transatlantic Trade and Technology Council (TTC) has an important role to play in this context.

Jonathan McHale, Vice President for Digital Trade at CCIA, welcomed the progress made this week on aligning standards for 6G and cooperation on AI during the EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council meetings. McHale highlighted the importance of details regarding the AI partnership between the U.S. and EU, particularly in terms of standards, to determine the effectiveness of this dialogue. He emphasized that finding concrete joint solutions to divergent approaches will be key to ensuring the durability of the TTC’s work.
