Eating nutritiously is essential for our overall health and wellness. Our daily food choices can greatly impact our mood, energy levels, self-esteem, anxiety, stress, and productivity. Incorporating healthy eating habits into our daily routine can lead to numerous benefits.

March is National Nutrition Month, with the theme “Beyond the Table” providing an excellent opportunity to reflect on our eating habits. Here are some ideas to incorporate into your daily eating routine:

1. Hydrate healthfully by swapping at least one sugary beverage with water or another alternative. If you love the bubbly sensation of soda, try flavored sparkling water instead.

2. Snack smarter by choosing filling snacks such as lightly salted nuts, dried fruit without added sugar, fresh popcorn, or fresh fruits and veggies. If you enjoy snacking on chips, pair them with a Greek yogurt dip and veggies.

3. Add to your meal by focusing on what foods you can add rather than what you can’t eat. Consider which food groups are missing from your plate and make sure to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products in your meals.

4. Step away from your desk when enjoying your lunch or snack to become more familiar with your hunger signs and allow yourself to fully enjoy your food without distractions.

5. Eat out wisely by choosing restaurants with healthier options such as salads and fruit vs fries and chips or skipping the beverage altogether or ordering grilled rather than fried items if possible. Don’t be afraid to ask for healthier options if needed!
