This past week, nearly 500 students from Berks County gathered at Albright College to take part in the 72nd annual Reading-Berks Science and Engineering Fair. The Bollman Gymnasium was transformed into a showcase of scientific knowledge and skills, with rows of poster board displays filling the space.

The event, which is the second-oldest science fair in the United States, offers students in grades six through 12 the chance to compete in either the junior or senior division. The winners of this year’s fair included Sindura Sridhar of Wilson High School as the grand champion, Paige Hinkle of Wilson High School as the champion, and Tyler Ferenz of Daniel Boone High School as the reserve champion.

In addition to the senior division champions, there were also winners in the junior division. Scarlet Neider of Conrad Weiser Middle School won for eighth grade, Kirra Tanaka of Saint Catherine of Siena School won for seventh grade, and Cooper Sellars of Conrad Weiser Middle School won for sixth grade. These students showcased their scientific research and experimentation to the judges and audience at the fair, highlighting their passion for science and discovery.

The champions of the senior division at the fair have earned the opportunity to represent Berks County at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles this May. This prestigious event will feature around 1,700 students from over 75 countries, regions, and territories, with prizes totaling $4 million.
