Appalachian State University has announced that its Chancellor, Sheri Everts, will be stepping down from her position later this week. Everts has been serving as Chancellor since July 2014 and her resignation will be effective on Friday, April 19.

During her tenure at the university, enrollment grew to over 20,000 students and continued to increase. Everts expressed pride in the university’s growth and development over the last ten years. Prior to her role at App State, Everts served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University.

In her letter announcing her resignation, Everts cited significant health challenges as the reason for her decision to focus on her personal well-being. She highlighted the impact of the students at the university, past and present, who bring purpose and make a difference in communities around the world. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Chancellor and wished everyone the best.

Under Everts’ leadership, Appalachian State University completed several significant projects, including the Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a new facility at Kidd Brewer Stadium, a large residence hall project, building renovations, and the opening of the App State Hickory Campus. Everts is the eighth Chancellor in the history of the university.

UNC System President Peter Hans stated that an interim Chancellor would be announced by April 19. The university community expressed appreciation for Everts’ dedication and service. The announcement of her resignation marks a new chapter for Appalachian State University.
