Healthvana, a patient interface company, created a conversational AI chatbot to help patients with sexually transmitted infections. The chatbot offered two options: a standard AI persona or a drag queen. To everyone’s surprise, the drag queen persona was the most popular choice, with 80% of people opting for it. Ramin Bastani, CEO of Healthvana, noted that patients enjoyed the comments made by the drag queen persona.

During a panel at the Milken Institute 2024 Global Conference, health care leaders discussed the growing use of AI in science and medicine. They emphasized the importance of developers and health systems being mindful of AI’s limitations to prevent harm to patients. Caroline Chung, Chief Data Officer at MD Anderson Cancer Center, highlighted the need for a shift in mindset from viewing AI as a replacement to exploring its potential benefits.
