Sonny Gray, a prized acquisition for the St. Louis Cardinals during the offseason, reached his 100th career win against the Oakland Athletics, the team that gave him his first taste of big-league action. In Monday’s away game, Gray pitched six scoreless innings and struck out six batters, leading the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory.

Gray was Oakland’s first-round draft pick in 2011 and made his MLB debut there in 2013. Monday marked his final start at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as the Athletics prepare to relocate to Sacramento next season before moving to Las Vegas in 2028. The start was an emotional one for Gray, knowing it could be his last time throwing on a mound where he has many fond memories.

Having won 44 games over five seasons with Oakland, Gray looked back on his first career victory at the Coliseum almost a decade ago. He approached this milestone achievement with a sense of importance and pride in having accomplished it in a place that held special significance for him.

Gray’s tenure with St. Louis has been impressive thus far, with two scoreless outings after returning from injury that landed him on the disabled list. In Monday’s game, key players such as Nolan Arenado, Willson Contreras, and Jordan Walker helped secure victory by driving runs home with their hits.

The Cardinals are currently involved in a three-game series at Oracle Park against Oakland, with Wednesday’s game set to be played next on FOX 2’s live coverage of news updates, weather forecasts, sports highlights and streaming videos.
