In 2024, Kelly Walsh High School and CY Middle School from Wyoming competed in the National Science Bowl Championship in Washington. This event marked the fifth consecutive year that Kelly Walsh High School won first place as the Wyoming Regional High School Science Bowl champion. The KW Science Club held mock science bowls throughout the year to prepare for competitions. According to the Natrona County school district, part of the fun is learning how to quickly respond to questions and using strategic critical thinking skills to avoid making mistakes on the spot.
On the other hand, CY Middle School students are part of their school’s STEM Club which explores advanced scientific knowledge and competes in Science Olympiad competitions every year. From January to March, 115 regional high school and middle school teams competed for a chance to attend the National Finals. The top 67 high schools and top 48 middle school teams from across the nation gathered to compete in academic competitions, culminating in the announcement of new National Champions. Unfortunately, Casper’s teams were eliminated before the finals.
