Vontae Davis, a former NFL cornerback, was tragically found dead in his South Florida home on Monday. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed pending an autopsy. However, authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected.
Davis had a successful career in the NFL, playing for a total of 10 seasons after being drafted in the first round by the Miami Dolphins in 2009. He spent three seasons with the Dolphins before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts just before the start of the 2012 season. Davis went on to play six seasons with the Colts before signing with the Buffalo Bills in 2018. However, he made headlines when he abruptly left the Bills at halftime of their second game of the season. In a statement released following his departure, Davis cited multiple injuries and surgeries as the reason for his decision, admitting that he felt he could no longer continue playing.
Throughout his career, Davis appeared in 122 games and recorded 22 interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown. He earned Pro Bowl selections in both 2014 and 2015 while playing for the Colts. The Washington, D.C., native left a lasting impact on the NFL community and is mourned by fans and former teammates alike for his untimely passing at age 34.
