The Varsity team from Central Wilkes Middle School has won first place in the regional Science Olympiad tournament, demonstrating their commitment and skill in a variety of scientific disciplines. This achievement has earned them a spot in the state Science Olympiad tournament in Raleigh, set for April 12 and 13. The tournament includes events that are both academic and hands-on, designed to align with both the NC Standard Course of Study and the National Science Education Standards.

The Science Olympiad covers topics such as biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering, and technology. This provides students with a comprehensive understanding of scientific learning. During the Wilkes Board of Education meeting on April 8th, Superintendent Mark Byrd praised the team for their outstanding achievement. The group was presented with Certificates of Accomplishment, including Kaylee Gravley, Kenneth “Alin” Carroll, Louis “LJ” Carque, Cormac Gebauer, Ryleigh Arnold, Will Hefner, Elijah Craig, Morgan Woodard, Autumn Carroll, Rowan Rapoport
