Just a week after Michele was named creative director, L’Oréal, the company that owns Valentino’s beauty license, announced Claudia Marcocci as the new president of Valentino Beauty, effective 6 May. Marcocci previously collaborated with Michele on Gucci Beauty under Coty’s license during Gucci’s period of rapid growth. She joined Coty in 2016 as a global vice president and quickly rose to senior vice president of Gucci Beauty in 2017.

Marcocci oversaw the successful launch of Gucci Beauty’s makeup line and the popular Bloom fragrance. Following her time at Coty, she worked at LVMH as the chief marketing officer and general brand director of Dior Beauty, managing various categories including fragrance, makeup, skincare, and spa.

The appointment of Marcocci at L’Oréal indicates Michele’s secure position and level of autonomy at Valentino. Known for his strong personality, Michele was deeply involved in the beauty sector during his time at Gucci, expanding his creative vision beyond just fashion. This leadership change presents a significant opportunity for Valentino Beauty, which has experienced significant growth under L’Oréal’s supervision. Sales have risen from €30 million when L’Oréal acquired the license in 2018 to a projected €500 million by 2024, driven by the success of the Born in Roma fragrance.

Marcocci takes over from Garance Delaye, who will transition to become president of Aesop’s international marketing division in London.
