The USC Aiken softball team has won a weekend sweep over Lander with back-to-back victories on Saturday afternoon. In the first game, Jena Dewalt was instrumental in kickstarting USC Aiken’s offense with a single in the opening inning. This was followed by Austyn Dixon’s fielder’s choice that brought home Lydia Johnson and Dewalt, giving the Pacers an early 2-0 lead. Skylar Morley and Ella Stone added to this lead with their respective singles in the second inning. Another single from Dewalt pushed the lead to 5-0.
Dewalt hit a home run in the fifth inning, sealing the win for USC Aiken with a final score of 7-1. Pitcher Lakyn Phillips held Lander to just one run on seven hits and struck out seven batters.
The Pacers continued their momentum into game two, winning 10-2 after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning. Dewalt’s single and Dixon’s RBI hit tied the game at 1-1 before they executed a double steal, pushing USC Aiken ahead by one run. With Dewalt leading the charge, this victory secured USC Aiken’s record of 8 wins out of 9 games played within the Peach Belt Conference, bringing their overall record to 23-12.
