USATF has recently reversed its decision to not participate in the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, which will take place in August 2024. The organization had initially decided not to field a team due to concerns about travel advisories, competitive readiness, and safety. However, after consulting with World Athletics and the Local Organizing Committee in Lima, USATF has confirmed that they will be sending a team to represent Team USA at the championships.

The safety and well-being of athletes, coaches, managers, and staff remain a top priority for USATF. They are committed to providing the highest level of competitive opportunities for their athletes on their journey to success. The full team announcement will be made after the USATF Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

This decision marks the first time the U.S. will participate in the World U20 Championships since 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya, where they did not participate due to safety concerns and COVID-19. The U.S. will be hosting the 2026 World U20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
