In the remote regions of the Amazon, a tragic accident occurred today as a helicopter carrying humanitarian aid crashed, resulting in the loss of five soldiers and three civilians. These brave individuals were part of the Risk Management Secretariat and were on a mission to deliver aid to communities affected by rising rivers in Pastaza, Ecuador.

The crash took place during an area prone to flooding, where the helicopter was en route to assist those in need. The military personnel on board included two pilots, a major, a lieutenant, three soldiers and two mechanics. In addition to the military personnel, three civilians also lost their lives in the accident. An engineer, a municipal technician and a Waorani leader were among those who perished while selflessly delivering aid to communities in need.

The bodies of those who perished will not be recovered until Saturday morning due to the challenging weather conditions in the region. The mayor of Pastaza has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and has confirmed that the entire region is in mourning. The community is determined to honor the memories of those who perished while providing aid to vulnerable communities.
