In the early hours of Thursday morning, a fire broke out in a strip mall on Michigan Road in Carmel. The flames quickly spread, resulting in one person dead and another injured. The Carmel Fire Department was alerted at 3:30 a.m. and responded promptly to the blaze, located in the 9800 block of N. Michigan Road.

Sadly, a man was found dead inside the building, and another person was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital with serious fire-related injuries. A Carmel firefighter also sustained minor injuries while battling the flames, but is expected to recover soon.

As a result of the fire, Michigan Road near 96th Street was closed in both directions for safety reasons. Tim Griffin, Public Information Officer at Carmel Fire Department, expressed his condolences to the families and businesses affected by the tragedy. He assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and provide answers and support to those impacted by this unfortunate incident.

The community is mourning this tragic loss and thankful for the bravery of our first responders who worked tirelessly to contain the flames and save lives.
