Aryna Sabalenka’s match at the Miami Open was rescheduled by a day following the tragic death of her former boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov. The news of Koltsov’s death sent shockwaves through the Miami Open, where Sabalenka is competing. Despite the difficult circumstances, Sabalenka expressed her heartbreak over the situation and asked for privacy for herself and Koltsov’s family during this tough time.

Sabalenka is scheduled to play in the second round against her close friend Paula Badosa, with the match now rescheduled for Friday. Badosa, expressing discomfort over the situation, acknowledged that playing against Sabalenka would be challenging given the circumstances. Koltsov was a former professional ice hockey player who also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL. He had represented Belarus in two Winter Olympic Games and nine world championships. Sabalenka described Koltsov’s death as an “unthinkable tragedy” in her first statement since the apparent suicide. The Miami-Dade police department confirmed they had responded to a call at a Miami resort where Koltsov reportedly jumped off a balcony, with no foul play suspected.
