Tina Freiburger, the dean of the College of Community Engagement and Professions, has been recognized as one of the winners of the Milwaukee Business Journal’s 2024 Women of Influence award. This prestigious list highlights business and community leaders from southeastern Wisconsin who are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Milwaukee area.

Freiburger has been a prominent figure in academia for over two decades, serving as dean since joining UWM in 2007. Prior to her current role, she served as dean of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare since 2013. Her research primarily focuses on gender and racial disparities within the criminal justice system. Freiburger is widely recognized for her expertise in this field, having collaborated with local criminal justice agencies on various studies and program evaluations, including topics such as juvenile offending, mental health identification in youth, police relations with juveniles, probationer and parolee work programs, and disparities in prosecutorial and judicial decision-making.

Throughout her career, Freiburger has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, secured significant external grants, and written or edited four books. She also serves on the editorial boards of academic journals such as Youth Violence and Juvenile Justice, Race and Justice: An International Journal, and Journal of Crime and Justice. Her contributions to academia have made her a respected figure in her field.
