In a major development for the Indigenous community of Yuquot in British Columbia, Canada, CalWave has been selected as the technology provider for a wave energy project. This ambitious initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation (MMFN), who are working to reclaim their ancestral land and build a sustainable community.

Funded by grants from TD Bank Group and the Clean Energy in Rural and Remote Communities Program within Natural Resources Canada, this project involves a consortium of leading partners across Canada, including The Pacific Research Institute for Marine Energy Discovery (PRIMED) at the University of Victoria, Barkley Project Group, Canpac Marine Services, and Environmental Dynamics Inc.

The goal of this groundbreaking project is to create a microgrid powered by North Pacific waves that will provide energy independence for the MMFN. As such, it serves as an exemplary model for other coastal communities along the North American Pacific Coast and around the world. Currently in its feasibility and design phase, this project represents a significant step forward in community development and clean energy innovation.
