Peachtree Corners, Georgia is a busy roadway with over 62,000 cars traveling daily on Peachtree Parkway. However, it’s not just cars that use this road; about 600 bicyclists cross it every Saturday. Assistant City Manager Brandon Branham highlighted the importance of road safety for all users, especially for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and bicyclists.

Branham emphasized the city’s commitment to safeguarding these groups, particularly at intersections where they may encounter vehicles. Peachtree Corners is known for testing cutting-edge technology at its Curiosity Lab, including equipment that can alert both cyclists and drivers about potential collisions in advance.

One of the technologies being tested is the Spoke Companion App, which allows cyclists and drivers to be alerted to each other’s presence on the road. This proactive approach aims to prevent accidents and save lives. The city plans to put this technology to the test during a pro cycling race event this weekend, focusing on improving safety for all road users.

While acknowledging that this technology is still evolving, the city is exploring additional ways to alert drivers and cyclists to potential dangers, including digital signage. The ultimate goal is to reduce fatalities and create a safer environment for everyone on the road. With over 1,000 cyclists dying and more than 130,000 being injured in crashes nationwide annually, road safety must be a top priority for all cities.
