On November 28, 2023, actresses dressed in Tang Dynasty military attire can be seen patrolling the Xi’an City Wall Scenic Area in Shaanxi Province. Meanwhile, the World Internet Conference (WIC) Digital Silk Road Development Forum took place in the city, attracting international influencers who explored Xi’an’s attractions and ancient history empowered by digital technologies.

The Xi’an ancient city wall is one of the most famous city walls in Chinese history and is well-preserved. To ensure safety, advanced digital technologies such as LoT sensing devices and non-destructive testing equipment have been used to enhance the wall. An artificial intelligence database has also been created to analyze and address potential hazards along the wall, with a focus on cultural preservation, tourism, flood prevention, and emergency response.

The Xi’an Museum has partnered with Alibaba Yuanjing to use state-of-the-art metaverse technology to provide an immersive cultural tourism and museum experience for visitors. With real-time cloud rendering and interactive 3D content, visitors can interact with precious cultural relics in a virtual world. This unique experience allows visitors to engage with historical artifacts in a new and dynamic way.

The international influencers’ tour was part of the WIC Digital Silk Road Development Forum, which focused on “Connectivity and Shared Prosperity”. Hosted by the WIC and organized by the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, the forum brought together experts and representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss topics such as digital infrastructure, cultural exchanges, cross-border e-commerce cooperation, and the use of digital technology in agriculture and rural governance.
