Austin is set to become a hub for dumpling lovers with two new restaurants dedicated solely to these delicious and versatile Asian delights. The first of these is Ugly Dumpling, a chain restaurant based in New Jersey that will be opening its first Texas location in the Arboretum at 10000 Research Boulevard in the fall of 2024. The menu at Ugly Dumpling will feature a variety of dumplings including xiao long bao (soup dumplings) with fillings like pork and truffle, chicken, and pork-shrimp-cucumbers. In addition to dumplings, the restaurant will offer dishes such as soy-garlic chicken wings, scallion pancakes, wonton soups, fried pork chops, and wok-fried entrees. Drinks such as milk teas, bobas, and lattes will also be available. Ugly Dumpling currently has two locations in New Jersey with plans to expand to New York and Maryland.

The second dumpling-focused restaurant coming to Austin is Dumpling World, which is based in Sugar Land and will be located in the Triangle neighborhood at 4616 Triangle Avenue, Suite 203. The menu at Dumpling World will include a variety of dumplings including steamed, pan-fried, boiled, pot stickers, bao, shumai, wontons
